Volunteers @ Hub Feenix

Welcome

Your adventure at Hub Feenix is starting now!

Here are the information you need to know for this experience to go as well as possible.

The Volunter deal

Each volunteer is expected to work 5 hours per day, 5 days a week, when possible in flexible work-hours. We do our best to match the work with your preferences.

On top of this, everyone participates in keeping the accommodation area clean (cleaning your own dishes, etc.) on their own time.

In winter, some snow work is also needed during your free time.

House rules

Since we all live together, and create the safe and good-feeling space together, everyone is required to follow the basic rules of the house.

Please read them, as you will be asked to respect them:

flexiblee_hours

Work hours & days off

We try to be as flexible in the hours and tasks as we can be. While, of course, getting the work done.
This means you can work for extra days off, or take a run in the middle of the day.

The typical work week is Monday to Friday, with starting time at around 10 A.M.
We do appreciate and prefer when people work together, and agree on a schedule to collaborate.

There is a mandatory meeting every Monday morning at 10 A.M. to discuss the work that has been done during the previous week, the upcoming projects, and everything that is happening at Hub Feenix.

Other useful information...

🛜 Wi-Fi: it covers the all building and speed is 200 Mbps. The network's name and password are on the wall, at the entrance of the volunteers' corridor.

📲 Communication: we use the safe Signal App, so it's necessary for you to download it. You'll be added to the volunteer group chat.

👩‍🏭 Work clothes: you can borrow painting, working, and warm clothes in our Clothes room on the first floor.

🛏️ Bed linen and towels are available in the volunteers' corridor, just ask.

🧹 All common areas in the volunteers' corridor need to be cleaned weekly on your free time. It's usually done on Wednesdays, and there's a calendar to keep track of Cleaning shifts in the kitchen.

♨️ We do sauna every Wednesday night, usually it is taken care of by a volunteer. We’re always wearing swimming suits inside. The firewood must be chopped in advance, so that there is always wood available.

🏋️‍♀️ Facilities: there is a laundry room in the volunteers' corridor, a gym and a climbing wall on the first floor, instruments (drums, guitars and pianos) around the building, a campfire spot next to the sauna, books to borrow on the 4th floor, a pub with sofas and a fireplace on the 2nd floor, and a sports field next to the building.

👥 Apart from the volunteers, there are residents living here permanently. You can learn about them, and Hub Feenix, on this page.

📱 Sähköseuranta and My Aurora Forecast & Alerts can be useful apps to have while you stay with us. The first one is to check the price of electricity and know when it's better to use the washing machine, among other electrical things, and the second one is to track northern lights. It's very rare to see them here, but it's possible!

Transportation around Hub Feenix

🚗 Car: it´s possible to borrow one of our cars, for the price of 0,25€/km. A driving test with us is required, ask Torsten for more information.
You can also ask a lift from people who have their own cars, maybe someone has the same journey than you.

🚲 Bicycle: there are a few outside, and you can borrow them for free.

🚌 Bus: the bus stop is less than 5 minutes away from the hub (Meltola, Raasepori). On the weekdays (= schooldays, some also during summer holiday season) buses go to either Karjaa and Lohja. You can check the timetables on the official website or here.
Buses are reliable, but sometimes they can run a little bit late, or come a couple of minutes in advance.

It costs 3,40€ when you buy the ticket from the driver (you can pay by card and cash) or 3,20€ if you get the Bosse app (don't buy the ticket in advance from Matkahuolto, it's more expensive).
